Pictures of my predecessors

When I came to America I was the sixth person from Norrgårds in Baggholma to make the move to the US. In line with the custom of the times (Primogeniture), the oldest son normally inherited the entire farm and the younger children had to find other opportunities. In the case of Norrgårds the family tradition was to emigrate to America. My Grandfather was the oldest and got the farm, so his younger brothers needed to do something else, and they decided to come to America; My grand-uncles Viktor and Albert came to San Francisco in 1896, and Axel came in 1904. In my father’s generation the tradition changed; then it was the youngest child, my father Axel, who had to stay home and work the farm while the older ones got to go to America; Uncle Gus came to San Francisco in 1914, and Uncle Ed came to New York in 1924 and Aunt Annie came there in in 1927. When I arrived all but Viktor and Albert were still alive and are pictured in the gallery below.
